This Free App Helps Stop Human Trafficking In A Genius Way
This is something you can do right now to make a difference. Human trafficking is a huge issue, and there is a genius method that allows all of us to help fight it easily.
The app TraffickCam is that helping hand. Here is how it looks like:
The idea is simple, you take four photos of your hotel room and the room number you're in. The images are matched against a national database used by police.
“Right now there are pictures posted every day. Hundreds of pictures, in every city around the United States, posted online, that show victims of trafficking, in hotel rooms posed on beds.” - Washington University Researcher and TraffickCam developer Abby Stylianou
This wonderful app helps cross-check your photos with what they already to know to crack down on it. If you are worried about privacy, enter in the details as you're checking out.
I feel really passionate about this because it's something we can do to help in this fight. Many of us travel often and stay in hotel rooms. If we all work together, then we can make a huge difference in the lives of innocent people.
"The internet has made it easier for criminals to engage in sex trafficking and child exploitation. The average age, when we talk to our girls that we deal with, most of them have started at 13, 14 years old. And most of them have been sexually abused as children." - Sgt. Adam Kavanaugh of St. Louis County Police.
Because I have a voice and a platform, it is my duty to help share and help in any way I can. I hope you do the same, every person makes a difference.
