The Imagery Of Faran Najafi: Medium Format Meets The Harsh Winter Of Iceland

Iceland has been a topic of jealousy for me. It seems that many photographers go there, and as they do, they share their experiences with the online world. I take it all in from my desk, taking a moment to jump into each frame so that I can imagine what it would be like to be there, even for a moment.

Recently, I came across another series of photos that I just had to share. Faran Najafi has been a friend and colleague of mine for many years. Based in San Francisco, we had the pleasure of finally meeting in person just a couple of months ago! He invited me on a tour to Adobe's offices and in that time, he shared with me photos taken on his recent trip there.

Faran is not only a great fashion and portrait photographer, but his take on architecture and landscapes are note-worthy. With his Leica S and Phase One IQ3 50MP on an Alpa A-Series setup, he took to Iceland to share his vision.

Most impressive, is his intentional decision to visit in the winter, to capture a beauty rarely seen.

As you go through the album, you'll see these images were captured without babying his equipment either.
