How To: Download Content From Netflix To Keep You Sane During Travel
Many of you already know about this, but for those lucky few that do not - this is for you!
This has really made my traveling life tolerable. If I could honestly plug myself into the Matrix, I would, but this is the next best thing.
I hate traveling, I can never sleep on planes and not many airlines have free content. If you travel often, this is huge.
If you have a Netflix account (or if ask really really nicely for a friend's password), you can now watch a lot of their content without an internet connection.
This is only available on mobile operating systems so it's worth having a tablet for long trips! I still use my phone with a stand.
iOS 8.0 or later
Android 4.4.2 or later
And The Netflix App of course.
Here's the "How To" guide directly from them.
In sum, just go to the title itself on your mobile device, and find the download/watch offline icon and you're set to stream it from the app when you don't have an internet connection!
Download a title
Not all titles are available for download. If you have a particular title in mind, you can search for that title and look for the download icon . If you are interested in browsing downloadable titles, select Available for Download from the Netflix menu . Once you have found a title, follow the steps below.
- Select the title you would like to download.
- On the description page, tap the download icon .
- For TV shows, the icon will appear next to each available episode.
- Once the title has completed downloading, you can access it from the My Downloads section of the app.
*At this time, storing Netflix downloads to an external storage device, such as a SD card, is not supported.
Select download video quality
You can select the download video quality that best fits your needs. Standard quality is a slightly lower video quality that requires less storage space and takes less time to download. Higher quality requires more storage space and takes more time to download.
- From the Netflix app, tap the Menu icon .
- Scroll down and tap App Settings.
- Under the Downloads heading, tap Video Quality.
- Select either Standard or Higher video quality.
*Android devices must be able to stream Netflix in HD to select video quality. Visit our article about Android for more information about HD capable models.
