A Pro Photographer Shows Us What The iPhone 7 Plus Can Do

Now that people are finally getting their hands on the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, it was only a matter of time before we could see if the camera lived up to the hype. So we found out just what it was capable of when placed in the right hands.

Derek Heisler is that person for the job. Thanks Derek, you're really taking one for the team.

As a photographer, Derek has a great eye and aesthetic with color. He was the perfect person to push the potential of the camera straight away. Even better, is being able to see the power of shooting in DNG and what that meant for mobile photography.

Derek shot the following photos in the painterly scenes of Calgary, Alberta in Canada. He wanted to see how great the new system was considering it also shot DNG (raw). In the native raw format, he uses the Lightroom Mobile app and VSCO to process the images.

He has the iPhone 7 Plus and he strictly used the secondary 56mm f/2.8 equivalent lens for these photos.

The Photos

This isn't even heavily edited, take a look at the shot without any adjustments below. It was simply exported from LR mobile as a jpg. It shows you how tasteful the adjustments were, and how much detail the camera captures.

The Crop

For you pixel peepers, here's a 100% crop of the shot above, to give you an idea about how sharp the lens is.

Dynamic Range

What's more fascinating, is just how much latitude the images have. Take a look at the before/after of the recovery of apparently blown out detail. This was using the LR Mobile app to read and manipulate the DNG files.

It's truly doing a great job at bringing back detail without looking like over-processed HDR photos.

More Photos

Finally, here are some more photos, these are straight out of LR Mobile with tweaks in bringing back the highlights.

Thank you Derek, for really showing us how the camera is.
