Here's How The BlackMagic eGPU Performs With PS, LR, and Premiere.

Have you been wondering about how the Blackmagic's external GPU performs in real world situations with a 2017 MacBook Pro? Yes? So have I, and I was anxiously waiting to see some tests. Especially since many of us have that laptop model with USB-C ports.

Keep in mind this is not tested with the most recent MacBook Pro, which is coming in a little later. So we may see what difference it makes then.

Colin Smith at Photoshop Cafe is as curious as any of us, and decided to test it out.

Let's just say that I was not expecting that at all. I won't spoil the results for you, because it's worth a watch. He tests Lightroom, Photoshop, and encoding video and how much time was saved, or not saved (gasp).

Now the question is, why do you think this is? Maybe it's only optimized for the most recent MacBook Pro? In any case, at least you'll realize that it won't help as much with your current laptop.

The positive side is the MacBook Pro alone is fast enough as is. I was hoping for more, especially for that price point. Let's see what comes down the line in the future and if it works better with the most recent MacBook Pro.
